Common Sense Government - Kitchen Table Techniques
In a day when we are bombarded with credit card companies sending blank
checks with zero interest for a year to only put one even further in debt, the
world keeps spending like there is no tomorrow in sight. Like money grows
on trees, and it is a plenty for all to partake. Well what is wrong with living
within your means? It seems that no one with any sense, including federal
and state government know you do not spend more then you make. There is
only so much so make it work.
Yes, I would love a nice garage added to our home and the barn to be
completed however we must wait while we save still paying those monthly
bills first. Then if we have any left over we can move towards our goals. With
gasoline looking like it could reach 4 bucks this summer I find that all of us
are just trying to get the necessities of house, food, and utilities paid.
And our Governor wants to build a ballroom for 12 million or more? This is so arrogant and ridiculous in light of the Tornado Tragedies and the Ten Care failures. It just seems our Authorities leave absolutely no guidance in spending because it is not their money to begin with so hey lets just spend it on what ever! Yes State Government spends our tax’s like they have a blank check with no accountability. I can not run my household on those principles and have a healthy house why on earth does the government. No wonder we as taxpayers are furious with the way they continue to allocate and spend our hard working monies. Shame on them!
Illegal Immigration:
It is way over due to “DO” something concerning our illegal immigration. Nine out of ten folks ask me what is your take on this very hot issue.
The Truth: Common Sense would dictate:
I. You can not ignore the fact that this issue is not only a National Security threat but a major problem to each state individually. Many policy decisions effecting immigration are made on a state level. For instance, proof of citizenship before voting, proof of residency before a drivers license can be issued, or any requirements that would allow only citizens, like health or education benefits, to receive state services. If the state of Tennessee would ‘police’ her own back yard we could then move forward and bring a change to the ever increasing number of illegal immigrants driving and working in our state. Every state is a border state and every town is a border town. Period.
2. By dealing with the illegal immigration work place as a state issue, business’s who have hired illegal immigrants must be notified and given a mandate that unless you get the right papers to prove that your employees are citizens you will be fined. You can not continue to break the law.
Just by focusing on these two points alone will bring reform to our states. Allow the Federal Government to focus on securing our Mexican and Canadian Borders to prevent this ever increasing flow of immigrants invading our country. There is much for Washington to concentrate on.
In 2008 it is vital that we pass legislation that will bring change to this problem. Republicans have sponsored legislation to take back our streets numerous times but Democrats killed these common sense bills. Action speaks louder than election year promises. Democrats have killed not once or twice but three times the following bills.
Republicans sponsored legislation for:
a. Tennessee Highway Patrol to be trained and assist federal officials
b. Proof of citizenship to be required before voting
c. Eliminating drivers license to illegal immigrants
d. All drivers license exams to be done in English. Road signs are in English! ( passed in the senate 18 -14 mostly along party lines)
Do not forget that 19 people used state-issued driver’s licenses to board four airplanes and turn them into weapons of mass destruction. To give drivers license to people in this country, of which we know nothing about, only intensifies and directly hinders efforts to address homeland security.
I will continue to push immigration reform in the next general assembly. With the thousands of state and local law enforcement officers nationwide, we have potential powerful allies in the fight against terrorism. Also I have talked with folks who are terribly frustrated about the “Mess in Memphis” concerning the procedures to become an American citizen. Reform is needed on both sides of the coin. Lets not waste our resources. Lets work together to further reform and improve immigration on a state and national level.
Please note that I am not anti immigration. My own father along with his siblings and parents immigrated here from Yugoslavia in 1952. BUT they did it right and they are productive citizens that speak English and are proud to be Americans. It is real simple, just enforce the already existing laws on immigration.
Protect the unborn:
I was deeply saddened when SJR 127 was defeated for the 7th time in the House here in the 105 General Assembly. Abortion has become a legal birth control and unfortunately this is an issue of life that was lost again in politics.
SJR127 would have allowed the people to amend our state’s constitution to reverse the decision by our state Supreme Court in which it found a “right to abortion” in our state constitution. Thanks to our Supreme Court and the inaction of our State House still our State Constitution protects the gruesome partial birth procedures in which late term pregnancies are terminated by removing the pre-born child’s brain and collapsing the skull. This is horrendous and I say it is time for legislators to step up to the plate and fight for the unborn. Enough is enough!
